In the lead up to Halloween next Thursday 31st, we decided to select Ngā Kete Kōrero /readers(x1 from each level) you could use next week in your Pānui programme to build some excitement/anticipation.

We have also added some extra ideas for activities/free download/reading responses to add to the hype.

Pukapuka #1 Ngā Kete Kōrero KHe (Kete Harakeke E)

Taitara: Kotahi te Whiore

  • wāhanga tinana o te taniwha

Kirīmi/Tiere(ideas)

  • make taniwha masks using our free download (click Kotahi te Whiore Book image above)
  • print mask on to card/paste mask on to paper plate
  • tamariki colour in their mask
  • cut out and cellotape an iceblock stick to each mask for tamariki to hold up to their face

  • make an ana in the akomanga ( 2-3 tables with black/dark sheet/table cloth/plastic thrown over to a corner set up using boxes etc)
  • print out our free download of ana creatures( click Kotahi te Whiore book image above)
  • tamariki colour, cut and attach to inside of the ana
  • Kaiako could make x1 Kēhua outfit using a white plastic/cloth table cloth/old sheet/material/white tshirt/shirt from hokohoko shop

Taitara: Te Kāpata Roa

Kaituhi: Manaaki Tibble

Kai!

  • tūāhua-whakamārama i te mataku/wehi/auahatanga a te tama
  • Ka piki haere te poho tārewa(suspense) o te kaipānui

Kirīmi/Tiere(ideas)

  • small groups of tamariki narrate the story- then record, adding sound effects- for other akomanga to listen to
  • create a huge kāpata roa (door) using A3 sheets/wharekai roll of paper-attach to a wall and have tamariki re-create scenes/art from the story to attach to the 'kāpata' e.g. tīkaro karu/tipua/kuia mākutu/taniwha
  • if you have a standing wall unit/cupboard-decorate with scenes from the story

  • Read a chapter every day(x8 chapters) to your tamariki, in the lead up to next Thursday!
  • If you don't like reading 'live' you could always record yourself reading...
